Video: New Chairman Thompson to Step Up Panel’s Oversight of DHS

The House Homeland Security Committee will up its oversight of the Trump administration in 2019 over a wide range of issues, incoming Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told Bloomberg Government.

Thompson, who previously led the committee from 2007 to 2011, wants Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to testify before the committee more frequently.

Election security oversight and funding will top Thompson’s list of priorities out of the gate next year, Thompson said this month in a video interview. He also wants to focus on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s handling of the 2017 hurricane season, and the department’s handling of family separation of undocumented immigrants, he said.
