U.S. Navy’s $6b Wish List Includes F-35s, Surveillance Planes

The U.S. Navy sent a $6b wish list to congressional defense committees, highlighting funding needs for additional Lockheed Martin F-35 jets, Northrop Grumman E-2D Hawkeye surveillance aircraft and Boeing-Textron V-22 Ospreys, according to a document reviewed by Bloomberg Government.

• The largest part of the request is for $2.7b for second Virginia-class submarine, made by General Dynamics and Huntington Ingalls
  • Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., chairman of the House Armed Services Seapower and Projection Forces subcommittee, released the sub funding information yesterday
• The wish list, known as unfunded priorities list, is marked for official use only and was reviewed by Bloomberg Government
• Total funding request on the list is $5.4b for procurement and research of weapons and $582.3m for military construction funding
• Here are the highlights of Navy’s request:
  • $525.5m in advanced procurement for 5 F-35 Cs
  • $357m in advance procurement for 2 E-2D Hawkeyes
  • $211.4m for 2 CMV-22s and spare parts
  • $42.8m for Raytheon AIM-9X missiles and $115.4 m for the Next Generation Jammer also made by Raytheon
  • $41.4m for Naval Strike Missile made by Raytheon and Kongsberg
• Request also includes funding for Super Hornet engine spares and upgrades
• NOTE: The unfunded priorities list is sent to Congress outside the official Pentagon annual budget request to highlight to lawmakers needs that weren’t funded in that request
