Congress needs to make a priority of its efforts to consolidate Department of Homeland Security oversight, according to Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), the incoming ranking member on the House Homeland Security Committee.

Rogers, currently chairman of the Armed Services Committee’s Strategic Forces subcommittee, said in a video interview earlier this month that House leaders should continue efforts started in the 115th Congress to streamline jurisdiction of the department’s operations.

Rogers’s other priorities include oversight of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s canine bomb-detection and PreCheck programs, as well as efforts to pass comprehensive legislation reauthorizing DHS for the first time.
