The House by voice vote clears a bill to extend pandemic-era school lunch aid, sending it to President Joe Biden’s desk for his signature a week before the program expires.

  • The measure, an amended version of S. 2089, would allow the Agriculture Department to extend free or reduced meal eligibility in schools beyond June 30, when such waivers are set to expire
  • The bill would also add flexibility to what foods schools can use in meals; schools have reported meal schedule problems due to supply chain shortages
  • The extension would be paid for by rescinding unused pandemic relief funds from several agencies
