At the start of Thanksgiving week, more than a half-dozen House races remain uncalled, including multiple seats in California and New York, plus one in Iowa. What’s clear is Democrats could enter the 117th Congress with as few as 222 seats, complicating life for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). And at least one of those members, Cedric Richmond(D-La.) has said he’ll leave for the White House.
On the other side of the Capitol, a vote last week that blocked Judy Shelton’s nomination to the Federal Reserve Board provided a preview of tight votes likely to occur in the Senate next year, regardless of what happens in the two Georgia runoffs in January.
