After the polling debacle of 2016, pollsters promised they had fixed their mistakes in 2020. Instead, polls showing Democrats with wide advantages for president and Congress appear to have been off by even bigger margins. Is the polling industry in crisis? And, perhaps more importantly, what does it mean for our democracy if we can’t trust information telling us what our fellow citizens think? In this video, we talked to Iowa pollster J. Ann Selzer, data analytics expert Elan Kriegel, and Bloomberg Government’s Greg Giroux, about the future of polling and what, if anything, can be done to fix it.
