Video: Asylum Incentives Must Be Addressed in 2019, Johnson Says

Congress must take action in 2019 to shore up incentives that spur migrants to illegally cross the U.S. border and claim asylum, Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said in an interview.

Johnson, who has chaired the committee since 2015, talked about his priorities in a video interview with Bloomberg Government earlier this month.

Funding for a border wall, a guest visa worker program, and action to address the risk of electromagnetic pulse threats that can be caused by lightning or nuclear blasts will be other concerns the the committee will tackle in the new year, Johnson said.
