A Bloomberg Government Study, “Opportunities Abound in 2012 Federal Agency Procurement Forecasts,” (subscription required) by federal business intelligence analyst Brian Friel, examines more than $24 billion in contract opportunities advertised in 15 federal agencies’ procurement forecasts.
Congress requires agencies to produce the forecasts each year to help small businesses obtain contracts, but those forecasts are not all of equal quality. Some agencies fail to provide actionable information in the forecasts, while others provide useful, up-to-date intelligence on the government’s contracting needs. Despite their uneven quality, billions of dollars in opportunities can be identified using the forecasts. This study provides examples of such opportunities along with an explanation of how to use Bloomberg Government web-based service to analyze them.
