Washington economists Robert Shapiro and Kevin Hassett debate whether the tax deduction for mortgage interest should continue, in the third installment of their BGOV Debate.
Hassett, of the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, said the deduction should be abolished.
Shapiro, former undersecretary of Commerce under President Bill Clinton, said any change in the deduction must be accompanied by other policy changes to avoid damage to housing prices.
