On March 31, Bloomberg Government hosted a healthcare forum at the Newseum focused on “The Iron Triangle of Healthcare” which examined the interrelationship between cost, access and quality in the U.S. healthcare system.
The event featured national political and business leaders including key note speeches by Congressman Charles Boustany, Chairmen of the Oversight Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee and Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.

The forum also included a panel discussion moderated by Bloomberg Government’s Managing Editor Mike Riley. Much of the discussion focused on ways to address escalating costs within the healthcare system – for public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid as well as for private insurers and businesses. While there was general agreement that costs need to be contained and that quality can help control costs, there wasn’t agreement on how to accomplish these aims.
In her one-on-one interview with Bloomberg’s Lizzie O’Leary, Secretary Sebelius unveiled the long-awaited and much anticipated rules for Accountable Care Organizations.
